This scarf was such a unique project. A few years back, a coworker returned from a business trip and with a beautiful new scarf. I had never seen an Infinity scarf like this before. Firstly, it had two sides and one of them was a soft fake fur! The other side was a loose chunky knit. The whole thing was just really nifty. Obviously I needed to make my own.
I asked my coworker if I could quickly borrow her scarf to take some measurements. The final scarf measures out to be 59″ x 9″, which is pretty long and meant my fabric was likely going to be two separate pieces. First I had to find fabric though. My stash of fabrics was spread out through a variety of boxes, box ottomans and large zip bags, you know the kind that normally hold bed sets. Needless to say, it took quite a while to go through all of my fabrics, but I had come across this brushed Aztec tapestry that I’d been holding onto because there wasn’t much of it. There was just enough to make this scarf though! Back to the pile to find a fur to match. I ended up choosing this creme swirled fur that has been in my pile for a few years. It turned out really nicely. If you want to make your own. Follow my instruction below. Time to get cutting!

As I mentioned both of my fabrics were not long enough, so I had to cut 2 pieces of each at 30″ by 9 1/2″. This allows for 1/4″ salvage for the seams.
First up is the tapestry. It needs to be sewn together at the 9 1/2″ side. This will give you a really nice long piece. Place the two pieces, right sides together and stich one of the 9 1/2″ sides. Then do the same for the fake fur.
Next, lay the two pieces, right sides facing together and sew down both long sides leaving you with a tube that will be open at both the top and bottom.
At both the top and bottom, fold it back 1/4″ and iron or pin. This will make the hand stitching you are about to be doing way easier.
Turn your tube inside out so the right sides are now out.
Now match up your open ends and hand stitch with the ladder stitch.
*NOTE: If you want to avoid hand stitching as the final step, only fold back one of the open ends. Then slip the end that is not folded inside the folded end, making sure to match seams. Pin all 4 layers together and sew 1/8″ from the fold. This will secure everything in place.
Congrats on your new Infinity Scarf! I hope you love yours as much as I do!
